About

Matt Niebuhr is an artist living and working in West Branch, Iowa.

.../miscellaneous - is a personal journal, self educational in nature, containing notes and images that inspire me, or that I wish to learn more about - as such, it includes works by other people as noted with full acknowledgment and credit to authors and sources where possible.

I also share content of my own making that I think is worth sharing with a larger audience. If there is any work by others who object to having their work posted here, I will remove the content if so requested.

Visit Matt Niebuhr - Works a site featuring my work exclusively. I established my studio practice in the summer of 2012 named "West Branch Studio".

New work on drafting film with a bit of color.
My goal is trying to find my own way somehow with this - maybe it expand with materials and process exploration.  I want to move this more towards the shimmer series work.  Admittedly, I am seeing references to some art I greatly admire.  I need to keep exploring to find more independence from those influences.

Really excited about committing some effort onto canvas!
The texture is a nice change from paper - although working on a stretched canvas with graphite has some drawbacks - particularly the amount of pressure you can apply to draw with - it’s just not the same as working on the wall - but I like the effect. (below)  Work continues with the figure/ground drawings on paper…
